In this election, two retired Employees’ Systems candidates are vying for a seat on the Board of Trustees of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System. The successful candidate will serve a four year term on the Board beginning on August 1, 2015.

The Board of Trustees would like to emphasize the importance of exercising your right to vote in this election. Members and retirees of the Employees’ Systems have the right to select the candidate who will represent them on the Board. As a Board member, this candidate will help shape policies that affect active members and retirees alike.

In additional to administering the survivor, disability, and retirement benefits of the System’s participants, the Board of Trustees of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System directs the management of a multi-billion dollar investment portfolio, monitors the investment performance of the total trust fund, approves all disability retirements, and adopts rules, regulations, policies and procedures necessary to administer the various plans. The Board plays a critical role in ensuring the security of your benefits, both now and in the future.

We ask that all eligible members and retirees take a moment to cast your vote. Your vote will help to determine who represent your interests on the Board of Trustees.

Election notification letters will be mailed during the week of May 18, 2015 and will contain voting instructions, candidate biographies, and a secure pin number which will allow you to cast your vote either through an Interactive Telephone Response System or through the Internet.

Voting begins May 19, 2015.
