Payment Information

It is mandatory for all payees to receive their monthly allowance through direct deposit to their financial institution. Payments are issued on the last business day of each month. Funds post immediately to the payee’s bank account. For payees with a direct deposit waiver on file, the dates for mailed checks also are listed.

The Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (“System”) takes data security and the privacy of your personal information very seriously. It is extremely rare that you will receive an unsolicited call from us. As in all cases of an unsolicited phone call, you should not share your personal or financial information based upon that call.

Our normal office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We do not contact customers in the evenings, on weekends, or on state holidays.

Tax Withholding

Payees may request that federal and Maryland state taxes be withheld from their retirement allowance. The Retirement Agency does not withhold state taxes for any state other than Maryland. Log in to mySRPS to update your tax withholding. Click here for more information about mySRPS. 

You also can update your tax withholding by completing a Federal and Maryland State Tax Withholding Request (Form 766).

What is this special tax benefit?

Eligible retired public safety officers may exclude from gross income on their federal tax return up to $3,000 in health insurance premiums that are deducted from the retiree’s monthly retirement check and paid directly to the insurance provider by an “eligible retirement plan,” including the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System
